Howeverthesamewasn'ttruewhentheyoungpeoplewereaskedwhethertheywereworriedabouttheirownhealthrisksbecauseofsmoking.Glantzsaystheresponseswerenotstatistically(从统计上)importantasasigntoshowthatconcernwouldleadthemtogiveupsmoking.
Theresearchstudies300smokersand300non-smokersbetween14and22yearsofage.
Previousstudieshavefoundthattheilleffectsofsecond-handsmokeareenoughtocauseadultsmokerstogiveuporatleastconsideritbutGlantzsaysthisisthefirstproofthatteensalsoareaffectedbytheseconcerns.

Thetobaccocompaniestreatkidslikeadultsandthat'spartoftheattractionGlantzsays.Thosetryingtogetkidstostopsmokingshoulddothesamehesays.
About4millionteenagerssmokeaccordingtotheAmericanHeartAssociation(学会)andmorethan3000teensundertheageof18becomedailysmokerseveryday.Ifthesecontinueabout5millionofthoseteenswilldieofsomediseasecausedbysmokingtheassociationestimates(估计).
Previousstudiesofhowanti-tobaccoadvertisingaffectspeoplehaveshownthatworryaboutsecondhandsmokeinformationabouttheaddictivequalitiesoftobaccoandreportsaboutthetobaccoindustry'sdishonestbehaviorarethethreemosthighlyeffectivemessagesthataffectpeopletostopsmoking.Glantzsays.
